N-weapons are safe from Taliban: PM

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s military can stop Taliban who are closing in on the capital, and the nation’s nuclear weapons are safe, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani told the National Assembly on Friday. Gilani spoke for the first time about the safety of the country’s nuclear weapons since the recent surge of the Taliban, while addressing parliamentarians. “If anybody challenges the writ of the government ... we will react,” said Gilani. On Friday, the president also assured separate gatherings in Sialkot district that Pakistan’s nuclear assets were safe. Gilani said that troops could handle the situation. staff report
